It's kind of hard to believe that in the human language, there is a word to mean "to kill yourself". It's facinating to talk about, but seriously it is a little scary. So to that, what is everyones thoughts on suicide?

I have always though and still maintain that suicide is for cowards. I try to understand that some people feel that there is absolutely no way they are able to live their lives because of the circumstances they have gotten in too, but I still can't get my head around it.
Perhaps certain cases are more understandable, but those aren't the ones you hear about. The ones that make the news are always the ones who leave family and friends behind to grieve for them. Things can't have reached the very bottom if there are still people who love you.
As a student nurse, I have to watch people dying all the time. People who really don't deserve to suffer the way they are. People with so much to live for, yet no hope that they are going to survive. After watching people like that it's hard to forgive people who abuse life.
Maybe I'm just believing in a bit of a fairy tale, but I think if your alive and healthy, there has got to be hope that things can be better.
If you refer to euthanasia as suicide my answer changes considerably.

I've lost a few members of my family to suicide, and I also view it as the cowrds way out.
I'll let this topic roll on for a little while, then I'll get involved a bit more with some personal stories.

I've never really thought about killing myself, but rather, my identity becoming absolete while I'm still living. Hard to explain.

I've had suicidal thoughts, but I was never really close to killing myself ever. Half the time it was only for stupid reasons.

I think a real classy way to commit suicide or maybe just commit suicide indirectly is to put yourself in the riskiest situations you can imagine. Like playing chicken with cars on the freeway or going to a rap club with a white hood on. Maybe try to get into Area 51. I mean, at least you'd put yourself to use. Has anyone actually been killed by those postmen near area 51? I don't think so.

But if for whatever reason you want to kill yourself, you should. If you hate it you shouldn't keep living because someone else wants you too. I don't have too much of a problem unless you want to take someone else with you.

What if that person who offs themselves has children, or they support a family? is it alright in your mind then? what if that person has a mental illness?

Most people I know who have kids know that they have far to much to live for to kill themselves. I don't think you should kill yourself at all, but if your life is so bad that you believe it's your best option and you can't wait for it to get better, then it's a personal choice. What kind of mental illness? And because of the wording in my last post I probably came off wrong, I don't think anyone should ever kill themself, it always gets better. But if you do it, then I am not going to judge you for it.

I know a family where the father, who also happened to be a very successful person, committed suicide. it happens everywhere, no matter the living situation. What kind of mental illness? Nothing specific, but any illness that would impair your judgement enough to do something like that, like Dissociative Identity Disorder. And because of the wording in my last post I probably came off wrong, I don't think anyone should ever kill themself, it always gets better. But if you do it, then I am not going to judge you for it. Ah, yeah, I get what you mean now, but I don't think there's any legitimate reason to end one self's life.

I've had a few suicidal moments, but I try to bear in mind that my personal problems are really very petty in comparison to some of the things that are going on in the world. It's important to remember that no matter how depressed you are at times, there're going to be other points in your life in which you'll be truly content, and the mere fact that the thought of suicide even appeared in the corner of your mind at one point will seem horrifying and incredibly stupid.

I wanted to kill myself yesterday when the Mets lost. Nah, I never ever ever contemplated suicide. I like my life. However if you hate your life, and it's dreadful living, and you think it's the best choice than do it. If someone was to talk to me about them committing suicide, I'd never reconmend it, I'd look for alternatives. If they do kill themselves, it's sad and cowardish, but thier choice.
