I think we can all agree what the trilogy is; Star Wars. But recently, I watched a video with Kevin Smith, explaining now that younger audiences accept The Lord Of The Rings to be the Trilogy. Now, I'm not the biggest nerd for Star Wars, nor did I like LotR - at all; but I will give Lucas his respects, since I believe he was the first director ever to make 3 movies about the sme sory (later continued with Indiana Jones, I guess >_> ) Anyways, which trilogy do you think deserves to be dubbed "THE Trilogy"?

Star Wars, because LOTR was ridiculously overrated. Oscar winner? Fuck you, Oscars. Fuck you.

Not Star Wars, Return of the Jedi is a fucking abomination. Even when I was 6 I hated it. It's worse than Episode 3 in my opinion. LOTR is strong throughout and has no letdown points.
And what about the Godfather movies?

There are a shitload in trilogies, but Star Wars is THE one since like I said, I'm pretty sure it's the first.
Also Godfather the trilogy was finished in 1990, where as Star Wars 1983, finished by 7 ahead of GF. Yea GF started first, but SW ended first, so it's entirely up for debate.

The Godfather is a great trilogy although the third one lacks the greatness of the first two. The original Star Wars trilogy is good, while the new trilogy is lame. The LOTR trilogy is overrated. Movies themselves aren't bad, but not ones that are rewatchable.
As far as great trilogies go these two are the shit:
The Dollars Trilogy Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
The Evil Dead Trilogy The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness
